Build. Innovate. Prototype. Change the World.

The Research and Innovations Unit invites students, innovators, makers, and aspiring tech entrepreneurs to participate in an exciting Online Microcontroller Programming and Interfacing Course designed to introduce participants to embedded systems, innovation, and product prototyping using the micro and the Elecfreaks Smart Health Kit.

This hands-on course combines creativity, teamwork, programming, and electronics to help participants transform ideas into real-world prototypes.


COURSE HIGHLIGHTS

Participants will learn how to:

  • Understand the process of ideation and innovation
  • Explore innovation cultures and teamwork approaches
  • Understand basic microcontroller architecture
  • Program using Microsoft MakeCode
  • Work with variables, loops, procedures, and peripherals
  • Interface with sensors and actuators
  • Evaluate and select components for real-world applications
  • Use the Elecfreaks Smart Health Kit
  • Build and test simple prototypes
  • Present innovative project ideas in teams

The course follows the flipped spaced-repetition learning model developed in Sweden, combining recorded lectures, interactive discussions, guided labs, quizzes, and collaborative projects.

The Internal Monitoring Unit (IMU) at Makerere University Biomedical Research Centre (MakBRC) is pleased to announce an ISO 15189:2022 Implementation Training scheduled to take place from 27th to 29th July 2026 at the Dean’s Conference Hall, College of Health Sciences, Mulago.

This training is designed for laboratory professionals, quality officers, researchers, and other stakeholders seeking to strengthen laboratory quality management systems and enhance patient care through effective implementation of the ISO 15189:2022 standard.

Participants will gain:

  • Understanding of ISO 15189:2022 requirements and implementation processes

MakBRC invites applications for a Short Course in Molecular Diagnostics designed to provide hands-on training and foundational knowledge in modern molecular diagnostic techniques.


📌 Course Overview

This intensive short course equips participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory skills in molecular diagnostics. By the end of the training, participants will be able to confidently perform and interpret key molecular biology laboratory techniques.


🎯 Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand nucleic acid structure and function

  2. Appreciate the design of Molecular Diagnostics laboratories

  3. Understand workflows in Molecular Diagnostics laboratories

  4. Identify instruments used in molecular diagnostics labs

  5. Understand reagents and supplies used in molecular diagnostic experiments

  6. Perform nucleic acid extraction methods

  7. Prepare PCR reagents and set up PCR reactions

  8. Prepare and run gel electrophoresis and interpret DNA bands

  9. Apply contamination control and quality assurance procedures

  10. Understand clinical applications of PCR and molecular diagnostics

  • Graduate students with basic molecular biology exposure (e.g., MICM, MSBT, etc.)
