CISM is a consolidated research center, highly specialized and with a strong capacity for research on transmissible diseases prevalent in Mozambique, with particular focus on the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the country (malaria, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and bacterial diseases). ​

CISM’s activities are focused on research and, for this, it has support services (laboratory, Information Technology, Data Management and Analysis), research platforms (geographic and demographic surveillance and morbidity surveillance) and training.​

In order to manage the activities, the Centre has an organizational structure composed of the Directorate General, 3 Directorates of Areas (Scientific, Administrative and Financial), within which are different departments, which in turn incorporate sectors and services.
