MakBRC – Makerere University Biomedical Research Centre, in partnership with the College of Health Sciences, School of Biomedical Sciences, Department of Immunology and Molecular Biology, is pleased to announce a Short Course in Molecular Diagnostics.

This hands-on course is designed to strengthen practical and technical skills in molecular biology, especially for those working or studying in health and laboratory-related fields.


🎯 Course Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand nucleic acid structure and function

  2. Learn the design and workflow of Molecular Diagnostics Laboratories

  3. Identify and use key laboratory instruments

  4. Understand essential reagents and supplies used in molecular diagnostic experiments

  5. Perform nucleic acid extraction

  6. Prepare PCR reagents and set up PCR reactions

  7. Prepare and run gel electrophoresis experiments and interpret DNA bands

  8. Apply contamination control and quality assurance procedures

  9. Explore clinical applications of PCR and molecular diagnostics in disease detection


👥 Target Audience

This course is ideal for:

  • Graduate students with basic molecular biology exposure (e.g., MICM, MSBT)

  • Final-year undergraduate students in related programs (e.g., BLT, BMLS)

  • Medical and veterinary clinicians

  • Agricultural professionals interested in practical molecular biology
