Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides guidance to faculty, administrators, and other staff on proposal development and grant applications for external support opportunities.
- Monitors/Reviews research proposals before submission to Federal, and other agencies to ensure compliance with University and agency policies and procedures.
- Analysis of fund balances to determine burn rate calculations for progress reporting, carry-over requests, projections, and close-outs of research/grant awards.
- Maintain financial records in compliance with statutory requirements and agreement
- Develop and review policies to enhance performance and strengthen internal control systems
- Support the Head of Finance and Strategic management to provide documents and information to external auditors to carry out annual and specific audit
- Assess any possible risk and develop mitigation measures to support research administration.
- Act as a team member, by organizing meetings and effectively coordinating activities with collaborators.
- Performs and assists with reconciling award activity of expenses to budget in order to avoid cost over-runs per Sponsor and University guidelines.
- Performs and assists with the preparation and review of financial reports or invoices in collaboration with the Finance and Strategic Management.
- Performs and assists with the monitoring of the awards revenues to the project accounts.
- Reviews and ensures the awards Budget and other data elements in the finance system accurately reflect the terms of the award.
- Assists with resolving issues, working with faculty, sponsored program administrators, university administration and internal and external constituents (e.g., Federal/State agency program officers, departmental chairs, etc.) for grant and non-grant (restricted) accounts.
Assists in coordinating activities and disseminating information to all grant collaborators, including annual offsite and onsite meetings for internal/external faculty and staff.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A First Class degree from a chartered University in either Commerce, Accounting, Finance or Auditing.
- Evidence of Membership with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.
- A minimum of three(3) year’s (thirty-six months) qualification experience.
- Extensive Computer knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Vision Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SUN Accounting and Access is required
- Membership with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants(ACCA) is an added advantage
- Knowledge and expertise in grant awarding institutions such as the National Institute of Health (NIH) regulations, policies, procedures, and laws are added advantages.
- The candidate should demonstrate an understanding of grant proposals and budgetary development, which is an added advantage.
